    School-Age Summer Camp

"The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth." -Dr. Maria Montessori

We offer a dynamic summer camp program for children ages 6-12. Our camp provides children with fun opportunities to explore, create, and enjoy the wonders of the season. Each weekly session provides a unique thematic program so children can experience a variety of topics in depth. Learning at Bright Horizons is a journey of discovery, investigation, experimentation, and collaboration. Read More

Drawing to the Sensations of Music

You Will Need:

Music, paper, felt-tip pens, pencils, and art materials to use for drawing

Directions:

Listen to a variety of music with your child and talk about how you feel when listening to different types of music.  Then, with your child, draw representations of feelings based on the music you hear (jazz, rock, hip-hop, classical, swing, etc.). Have your child experiment with drawing lines to music (straight, curved, jagged, squiggly, zig-zag, serrated, wavy, etc.).

Tip:

If you child is interested, have him try the activity on a tray or wearing a blindfold. Let your child select colors according to how the music makes him feel, and talk about how different colors make us feel, too.

What Your Child Can Learn:

  • To appreciate different genres of music
  • To express himself creatively
  • To connect hearing and seeing
